Shaun November 23, 2022 for Model Number A211 we have a maytag washer model A211 built in May 1989 with the pitman transmission the lower lip seal is just ever slightly too large to slide into the cavity please help.
1 Answer Hello Shaun, the lower lip seal from the manufacturer is the only lower seal part for your model, it does not come in different sizes, we have a repair video showing how the part is replaced on our website under the part number. Read More...
Pam August 13, 2018 for Model Number A382 When I disassembled my 33 yr old Maytag A382 to change the Lip seal my seal is not plastic it looks like brass. How am I supposed to get this out there is no lip to grab or get under it looks recessed. I search online and the tool is discontinued. I can send a picture.
1 Answer Pam, If you have the "orbital" type transmission 6-2097750 then your machine has a lower lip seal, Look up part # 207843 on the website and click on the videos. There are options for removal there. You can also get a 1/2 " in galvanised or "black pipe" 3 inch nipple from the local hardware store, and place it over the helical shaft and push it up and screw it into the seal, then use a pair of pliers to pull the seal and nipple out of the transmission housing. If you have the original "flat" type transmission, then there is no lip seal and the transmission will need to be replaced. Thanks, Read More...
Clyde January 06, 2017 for Model Number NAV5805AWW Will the lower transmission seal cause the noise I am hearing? If not, how do I check the transmission? The agitator is good, I had it apart. Sometimes there is no noise at all and the machine works fine but clothes sometimes are wet other times they are okay. Should I have a expert check it out or replace it. The washer is about 10 years old.
1 Answer Clyde, For a noise issue the lower seal will not cause this issue. You would want to check the drain pump to make sure that the bearings are not starting to fail on it. If this checks ok then it sounds like the thrust bearing would be the likely cause. Unfortunately there is no way to test the transmission on this unit. Read More...
Clyde January 05, 2017 for Model Number NAV5805AWW I own a amana washer and having some issues with it. I have replaced the thrust bearing and belt. Still making a slappying and knocking noise during wash and rinse cycles. Much loader on towels and jeans and leaving the clothes wet. I checked the spin pump and it is smooth and free, no blades broke or missing. What else could I look for and what part would suggest i replace? thanks for any help you can give me.
1 Answer Clyde, You will want to check the agitator and if the agitator checks ok then this issue will most likely be a transmission issue. Read More...
Bill October 14, 2015 for Model Number A482 My old Maytag is leaking some oil from the bottom oil seal. After removing the pulley and brake assembly I do not see an oil seal. All I see is what appears to be a brass bushing in the place where the oil seal should be. I am at a loss of how to remove this bushing since I assume it is pressed in place from the bottom. Have you seen this?
1 Answer Bill, If the brass bushing is flush with the shaft of the transmission and there is no recess then you will need to replace the transmission. If there is a recess then the seal can be replaced. Read More...
Ron January 20, 2014 for Model Number mavt634aww Ok so my wash machine leaked all over. I had replaced the pump out pump two years ago. Figuring it was the same I got to work. However before I ordered any parts I observed what appears to be grease and oil all over the bottom of the machine what do you suggest.
1 Answer Ron, It sounds like the transmission is leaking with oil being all over the bottom. With the transmission leaking, this would require the transmission to be replaced. Read More...

Ed August 15, 2011 for Model Number LAT9804AAM Hi, one more question...how do I replace transmission oil that has leaked out of the lower oil seal? If as little as 1/2 cup is all that has leaked, do I need to replace oil? Thanks, ED
1 Answer Hello Ed. That shouldn't be enough oil to worry about. To replace it, you will lay the washer on it's back and remove the screws around the seal plate and remove the plate. Then fill the oil. Reinstall in reverse order. Hope this helps. Read More...
