How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5985148 / W10822259 Refrigerator Condenser Fan Motor

Ordered this part for my Whirlpool ET8WTMXKQ03 top freezer refrig. This motor was recommended to replace the plastic molded Panasonic UDQROO3W7 original motor. Electric connector had to be replaced which is not difficult. But, the sheet metal screws included with this kit were too short to adequately secure the motor. Not a big problem but I believe you need #8 x 3/4" hex head sheet metal screws to do the job. Note that on this fan's metal housing, the holes for the securing screws are not tapped or threaded. The sheet metal screws have to bite into the metal. So make sure you're using hex head screws. Other than that, not too difficult and this motor is pretty quiet. 

Replaced the Condenser Motor Fan. Replacement part fit perfectly, even the electrical relay. Hardest part was accessing the hex screws with the socket wrench. Fridge is now running great. Beers are nice and chilly!

Ordered new motor from appliance parts pros, exact replacement. Came in 2 days. 

Removed the bracket holding the fan motor, replaced motor with new motor I bought. It would have taken me less time, but the fan blades were hitting the bracket when I spun it after installation, so I took the whole thing apart again to make sure I didn't screw something up. I hadn't, so I ended up just bending the fan blades until they spun freely. I did have to replace the wiring clip, but it wasn't a big deal at all and everything I needed was included with the motor. 

Ordered from AP and changed it out. 

Replaced the new one then my Refrigerator now been working good. 

Already knew how to repair but I did watch video on appliance pro parts for additional hints. very helpful 

I called my local appliance store for the part and it was pricey and would be a day wait. I found Appliance Parts Pro.com on line. The web site was easy to use and it took Pay Pal. I saved 25 dollars and the part was on my front porch before noon the following day. I had to call for help once I began the repair because the wire colors were different. Big surprise since the original part wasn't available from 21 year ago. The Customer service I received was great. I explained my situation and in about 10 minutes the new wiring configuration was figured out. Very knowledgeable staff, courteous and helpful. The fan however wasn't the only problem and I had to call a tech. The good news is the Refrigerator is running like new now and the total cost was 145.00.
