Fredrick C Allen , TX August 05, 2014 Fridge wasn't cooling but could hear compressor turn on Opened back panel and noticed the fan was stopped. Unplugged the fridge and the fan was very hot to the touch and did not spin freely. I was able to remove the fan and get to run for a day by freeing up the motor. It quit after a day - and bought this one online. Was easy to replace and now the fridge is much cooler. Brooke B Whitmore Lake , MI June 09, 2018 Appliance: Whirlpool Side By Side Refrigerator ED5FTGXKQ00 Very hot cabinet near freezer door Rear fan motor was not working. I replaced it and followed the instructional video. It was super easy and took less than 30 minutes. While I was there I also cleaned out the undercarriage - so much built up dust and dander that the air was not flowing through the coils. It works like a charm and the cabinet is now cool. I'm sure the refrigerator is working more efficiently, now, too. John V St. Cloud , FL November 28, 2025 Appliance: Whirlpool Refrigerator ED5SHGXMT00 I have a 1993 whirlpool side by side and it was making noise from the bottom over here of the fridge I watched the video of how to repair the fridge with the motor I ordered. It was very helpful to know what I was getting into. It was a little cumbersome because you have to lay down and reach in behind and loosen things up. I test fit the screws in the motor as I realize they are not threaded in the motor. I went ahead and tighten the screws all the way up prior to installing The motor which made it way easier than trying to tap the screws once the motor was under the refrigerator and in the tight area. After that it was very straightforward, I bolted it in after installing the fan on the motor. I pluggged the connector back on the motor and away she went. It is working fantastic now that the motor has been replaced. Read More... Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes Tools: Pliers, Screwdrivers, Socket Set
