How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5985110 / W10811155 Control Panel

This is the second time I had to replace the front control panel because the start button would not work. All other buttons seemed to work as they lite up when I depressed them. I used Youtube to learn about how to repair and then ordered the part. Part came in two days and I had the dishwasher back up and running. If I was a Magtag engineer, I would think they should be working on this common failure. 

Looked up your web site and found the front panel for purchase. Researched other customer issues like the one I was having and they had same issues. Front panel replacement was recommended fix. 

Replaced the front control panel. Troubleshooting guide that came with the unit helped me diagnose the problem in a few minutes. Part change out was done in 10 minutes. Dishwasher is working fine now. Happy Wife = Happy Life. 

Got my new control panel within 2 days. Called the repair man and had it fixed in less than a hour. Best part? Called several repair companies who said the panel would cost anywhere from $150-$300.00 plus coming out to my house would be $85.00 to evaluate plus another $85.00 to come back and PLUS $150.00 to install. My guy came out, installed for $70.00 

Had to replace the whole control panel. 

REPLACE TOUCH CONTROL PANEL 

Replaced control panel. 

This repair works best with another person to help hold parts and pieces during replacement. This expedited the process greatly. First I turned off the breaker to the dishwasher and tested the machine to ensure there was no power running to it. I opened the door to the dishwasher and unscrewed the bottom 4 screws on either side (the top 2 on each side hold the control panel in place). Closing the door without it locking I lifted up the panel and out removing it from the machine. I removed the remaining screws on the inside of the door and slid up to remove the control panel. I removed the screw holding the handle in place and took it off the panel. There was a grey control box affixed to the panel by brackets. I used needle nose pliers to snap those and make removing the box much easier (trying to keep the tabs back while simultaneously trying to remove the control box was very difficult ). I detached the ribbon from the box and now the control panel was free to be replaced. I attached the new box to the circuitry ribbon and the box snapped easily in place. I attached the handle piece and did the rest I did in reverse order and ran a cycle to ensure the dishwasher wad working properly once I switched the breaker back on.

After some testing, I figured the problem to be the front control panel. I searched the web for the right part at the right price. This turned out to be the very best place. I won't even look for another place the next time I need a part. Service is unbeatable! Delivery was very fast. It's an old dishwasher and I expected I would have to junk it and buy a new one, ouch.
