How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5985110 / W10811155 Control Panel

Before I bought anything I jumped online to see if I could get some answers. Once I diagnosed the problem (had to figure out if the panel or control board was defective) and in my case it was the panel, I ordered it right away came two days later. I had the replacement on in 20 minutes. It took me a bit to get the pieces unsnapped but it was straight forward from that point. A tech was charging 100 bucks just to look at it plus parts and labor. Would have cost me easily over $300.00. And I felt pretty good afterward. 

Very simple process to remove old control panel (6 hex bolts), unclip the control board and door switch from inside the panel, unplug the control board, transfer the handle, plug in the new control board, clip in the parts and re-bolt in. 5 minutes and it works like new.

I ordered a new part after doing an internet search for others with the same problem. It took me 15 minutes and the new part was installed and the dishwasher is working properly again. 

Feedback and articles helped me diagnose the cause quickly. Diagnostics indicated a faulty start button. Used chat feature and technician helped me find the exact part# to replace. The part arrived very soon (much sooner than expected). Swapped control pad in minutes and I was up and running again. 

Replaced the control panel with my drill and the hex bit in less than 5 minutes (removed 4 screws total on each side of the panel and 2 screws on the top) 

Ordered a new front panel and two bi-metal fuse's, (the fuse failed when I originally opened it up to verify connections). The parts arrived and I had it fixed in 20 minutes. Ordered 12/17 parts arrived 12/22. 

My husband took it apart found the problems and researched the internet located the part at Appliance Parts Pros and placed an order. 

A friend who repairs appliances knew exactly what the problem was. The electronic "touch" switch panel. $ 133.00. You need star drives to remove screws.I own a fifteen year old Kenmore with mechanical push button switches. Never a problem. You would think appliances would be getting more reliable with the higher prices and supposedly "new technology." I e-mailed Maytag and they did not even respond. I Would not recommend Maytag. 

We are Snowbirds who bought a house in south Alabama, and here Qct. till May. So, it is only used 6-months each year. I had the panel replaced two years ago. Same problem. I watched the service man, and thought, I could do that. Rather than paying him $230.00 again, I found AppliancePartsPro on the internet, and ordered the panel which cost $131.00. It arrived sooner than expected. I removed the old front panel from the dishwasher, took the door lock mech. off, and installed it on the new panel, along with the old circuit board. Plugged in the ribbon connector, put everything back together, turned the power back on, and it worked! I did all this sitting in a folding chair. I am 75 years old. You could do this!!!
