Searched on Google and found that others with my Kenmore model had the same problem which could be fixed by replacing the motor relay. Found a U-Tube video that showed how to access the relay behind the control panel. Ordered the relay, which arrived the next day. Following the U-Tube instructions, replaced the relay, being careful to insert the four wire connectors in the same fashion as they were in the old, faulty relay. Started the dryer and it ran normally. I could hear the relay close after I released the Start button. The actual part replacement procedure took less than fifteen minutes.
