I did not bother to troubleshoot the original parts. After 20 years I figured that I should just replace them both. The hardest part of the repair was determining how to access the control panel. Once that was done, it was merely a matter of 5 minutes to swap out the parts. The relay simply screwed in. The switch as designed for easier, non screw, replacement, pointing out that they expected this switch to fail and need to be easily replaced.
