How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6014838 / WPW10072840 Inner Cap Seal

I'm well familiar with repairing and replacing the short cam agitator on our washer. I always keep a spare on hand which I had gotten from App parts pros. I reordered another one to keep on hand and it arrived a couple days later. The parts available thru APP is fantastic and the parts arrive super fast. I have been using them for many years to keep our household appliances working. There's no need to replace an appliance when the problem can solved cheaply and quickly. 5 Stars for sure. 

Searching the Internet and watching a few videos on YouTube reminded me about the repair that I did on my Whirlpool washer five years ago. I decided to order the same parts (clutch assembly, motor coupling, short cam agitator kit) from the same reliable place which is AppliancePartsPros.com. The instructions from the videos on the website are easy to follow and my washer is running again. Hopefully, it will run for another five years. 

Well, I've done the job before on another washer. I knew the problem were the 4 small plastic dogs that catch and grab the agitator to spin it. So glad they are replaceable. Super easy repair that takes 5 minutes (or more for amateur). Also replaced the large o-ring that seals the top piece of agitator where you put fabric softener into. 

Replaced seal 

Removed the agitator and replaced the worn and broken part from a kit I ordered from Appliance Parts Pros. Took a while to get the parts (no fault of Appliance Parts Pro). They got the parts out the same day I ordered). The post office was backed up and made my delivery about 8 days late. Nevertheless, I got the part installed and the machine is working just fine. Now I have to order the heater element for my dryer from Appliance Parts Pros. They make it easy to locate the parts with very helpful videos.

Bought the agitator repair kit and followed instructions from the video on the Appliance Parts Pros website. 

Found the video provided by Appliance Parts Pros. Excellent video with great detail and narrative. The only thing I ran into was the bolt holding the agitator assembly in was so rusted, a socket would no longer turn it. I center punched and then drilled in center bolt head with a 1/8" drill bit approx ?" deep. Then I drilled into the same hole using a 5/16" drill bit, until the head of bolt popped off. Lifted agitator assembly off and used vise grips to remove the remainder of the bolt from the shaft. Ordered the short cam agitator repair kit along with a new bolt and inner cap seal. Replaced all when they arrived the next day and washer is working great again. Thanks for video and on-time delivery. 

Replaced the Whirlpool Direct Drive Washer motorCoupling 

Found that the dispenser was full of black sludge. It was easier to order a new one. I also found the agitator dogs were completely worn out. Ordered the dispenser, short cam repair kit, "O" ring for inner cap, and a new bolt. The repair was simple. Cleaned off the inner cap and installed a new O ring. 7/16"(?) socket and an extension to remove the bolt. The agitator needed a good tug to remove. Replaced the agitator dogs and holder, agitator back on, tighten the bolt, install the inner cap, snap-on dispenser and ready to go. The total time was less than 30 minutes.
