Hi, I’m cheap so rather than replace my dryer, I prefer to repair it. In the end, it may be better to replace it with a new dryer. I have a gas dryer and hookup of a new one would be a pain to find a gas installer. Even if I convert back to electric, I’d still need a gas repairman to terminate the gas line.
Anyway, I bought a new motor, flame sensor, and thermostat and replaced them. The strange occasional humming sound went away and the clothes are drying fine now. I had to adjust the angle of the motor to prevent a scrapping sound that occurred on the first drying cycle after restarting. I’m still waiting to dry more clothes to see if it’s finished scrapping. I’ve replaced other parts in the last year also. Solenoids for example. Is it better than buying new??? Not sure. But my dryer works now and I’m ok with it.
Appliance parts pros do make things easy, but it’s a little pricey for some parts.
I hope this helps others.
