I was able to pull my Whirlpool dishwasher out from its cabinet without disconnecting the electrical supply, water supply line, and drain line. This allowed me to pull away the insulation at the bottom of the unit so I could observe it in operation. I had watched several YouTube videos about leaking Whirlpool dishwashers, so I was familiar with what I was looking at under the unit as it ran. I could see that it was leaking at the diverter motor shaft.
The diverter motor shaft seal cannot be purchased separately, as it is available only as part of the sump assembly. I ordered the sump assembly from AppliancePartsPros.com on Sunday, 11/5/23 and paid for standard shipping. To my surprise and delight, it arrived on Tuesday, 11/7.
The repair is easy, but time-consuming, since all the motors are mounted to the sump body and must be removed in order to replace it with a new one. The YouTube video covering the sump replacement procedure from AppliancePartsPros.com is excellent and provides very clear step-by-step illustrated instructions. It was actually one of the videos I had viewed prior to starting the repair.
My dishwasher is now running perfectly again.
