How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6012742 / WP8318084 Lid Switch

I had to replace the 3 terminals and try to put them in the new terminal receptacle. I replaced the lid switch because I broke the old one trying to diagnose the problem. I found the helpful video on this site after I had already started. 

Replaced the agitator drive connector and dogs, worked well after a very quick fix. The second machine had a bad lid switch, replaced and solved the problem. Only took a few tools and a short amount of time and easy to do. Chat room was a good source of information. 

We had an appliance repairman look at it a few years ago and he told us he couldn't fix it, but we should just pound on the back corner of lid each time to get it to progress through cycle. It progressively got worse until one day it stopped. I tried to adjust the lid which worked once before, but it didn't help. So I began shopping online for new washer. I googled the model # of washer to determine what capacity was. My search revealed a similar problem with this model. I clicked on it, which took me to your website and watched "how to" video. I follow Ed instructions and discovered that the switch was working but that it would shift when door closed. So I duct taped the switch to keep it from moving as temporary fix. I ordered new switch which arrived in a few days, installed it, and my washer works like new! Saved me $700 which I didn't have to spend. I'm thinking of using that money to fly somewhere warm!! ?? 

Replaced flowmeter,temperature switch,lid switch. 

2 screws to access the panel. 5/16th bolt pop a clip push into place. Done 

Replaced lid switch. 

Just changed out the parts that I determined were bad by using a print and Fluke multi-meter The parts were delivered by next day shipping as were promised. Your company did an amazing job and I would “HIGHLY”, recommend you do whomever requires parts and reliable delivery. Thank you. 

My sister in law told me that her washer wouldn't run. If she slammed the lid sometimes it would run a little bit. She was doing her laundry at my house and said she had "a guy" coming out the next day. "What?! I said, I can have it running in 10 min and have a new part in two days" So, i looked up the model on your site, watched the video then went to her house to rig the old switch until the new one came in. I showed her your site and the video. When the part came in, she came and got it and put it in herself. I don't think she will be so quick to call a "service guy" in the future. After this experience and me telling her all the appliance repairs I've been able to do over the years due to your site, i think you have a new customer. Thanks again 

I replaced the lid switch. First, I removed the control panel. Next, I tilted the cabinet back to allow access to the old lid switch. It slips out easily. The new was was then installed. Easy.
