How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP3094140 / 279320 Terminal Block Kit

Replaced the wire hookup terminal and replaced the power outlet cable with a new one 

Previous owner had a short which also affected the terminal block. Instead of capping the two black wires together, they instead ran the bare black to the eye connector and taped together. Poor connection. Subsequently shorted again, cooking the tape to to wires/connector. Found AppliancePartsPros, as I had ordered previously (simple repair saving me big $$). They had the best price points, correct and quality parts, to include step by step video instructions. I already knew what I needed to do (giving it three stars below for difficulty due to dealing with the electricity) , but I used their video as a teaching tool to spark my nephew's interest/participation. Noticed that a wire on the terminal block was burned off. Since this was an older model dryer, parts were not available locally. Made an order for the replacement terminal block kit, late night Thursday and received it first thing Saturday morning, WOW!, never expected it that fast and only paid the flat rate shipping fee. With only a screw driver, I was able to remove the old part and replace it with the new part in less than an hour I have the dryer put back together and working! 

First I went in youtube to get some help. Learned a few simple things one can do to diagnose before paying someone $100 to walk in the door to do the same thing. Tested my thermal fuse, was fine. Then I noticed the black wire on my cord was burned to a crisp. About 2 inches worth. Surprised I didn't smell anything burning but thinking it was mostly like that when I bought it used. Took the plug off and the terminal block and saw that the black wire was burned about an inch from block to dryer...started melting onto the white wire. I was lucky. I searched online and went to my local parts store and they wanted 50 bucks just for the terminal block!!! I found you guys by chance and was surprised to see a terminal block kit with everything I needed for only $30! I purchased it on a Thursday evening and received it on Saturday. Couldn't believe how fast it got here! Had my landlord do the wire cutting because when it comes to electrical things, I'd rather have someone who has experience do the job. Came home tonight and I am drying my clothes as we speak. The culprit when I saw the burned wires, was the fact the black wire was not screwed on tightly onto the terminal block. In any event, you guys are awesome and would recommend your site to everyone. Thanks! 

Ordered a new terminal block from AppliancePartsPros.com. It was easy to find the correct part on their site. I ordered the part at 3 pm Thursday and it arrived at 9 am Friday, and I only paid for standard shipping. Great service and it came with an excellent video that made the repair so simple. I highly recommend AppliancePartsPros. 

I previously ordered the heating element, thermostat, and fuse. Also the rear drum rollers. However, after completing that repair I noticed that the terminal block and power cord had some damage from an apparent overheating while allowing the dryer to continue to run in order to dry the clothes. All is well now and the unit is working just fine. I appreciate the quick delivery of all 3 orders.

I watched a YouTube on how to replace the wiring and the terminal block on a Whirlpool clothes dryer. The video was put out by AppliancePartsPros.com and was very well done. I ordered the replacement parts and waited about 2 days for them to arrive. The total time for replacing the parts and rewiring was about 30 minutes as promised. I probably could have got it done faster, if the dryer wasn't in a tight area.. 

Lack of strain relief at the cord allowed an arcing short across the case ground after someone moved the dryer too far. Replaced the burned-up terminal block, plus screw, nut & terminal on the burned-up leg, and wired a new case ground. With an additional new dryer cord from town, had the dryer back up and running safely in an hour or so
