How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4093621 / 74004053 Top Burner Spark Igniter

I purchased a replacement igniter, but after replacing it, it turns out that the frequent arcing had eroded the burner, increasing the distance to the igniter and causing the arcs to migrate to the sides instead of down. Bending the igniter tip down a little closer to the burner and using a dremel to partially clean off the eroded area mostly did the trick. I also switched the burner from the front with one of the lesser used burners in the rear. Because the wire was soldered to the rear igniter for some reason, I had to switch out the igniters as I swapped the burners. 

Purchased a new spark igniter and replaced the old broken one. Took 5 minutes wit a screw driver and small pliers. Burner works perfectly now. 

Ordered new one and changed it 

Installuon was easy exact fit 

Purchased a new burner igniter and installed it with just using a Phillips head screwdriver in less than 10 minutes. 

Order a top burner spark igniter. It would of been nice if screws came with the igniter. 

Removed burner and replaced ingniter

I tried to switch the wire from the spark module. At beginning, the failing igniter have some spark. But did not light up the fire. I cleaned the gas passage under the igniter. It did not help. So, I ordered the top burner spark igniter. After carefully replacing the igniter, it light up the top burner at the first try. I was so happy it really that simple and straight solution.
