How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6007578 / WP308180 Oven Bake Element

Unscrewed the plate securing the element from the back of the oven and gently pulled the leads out. I put a clip on each of the leads so they wouldn't retreat back into the hole (that happened the last time I replaced the element). Then I removed the old element and slipped the leads on the new one, and screwed the plate to the back wall of the oven. It's a really simple fix. Honestly, the worst part was getting down to the level of the oven at my age (69). By the way, I paid for 2-day delivery and received it the next day! 

Took out the old heating element (remembering to secure the two wires in the rear to prevent them from slipping into rear of oven) and replaced it with new one. 

Turned off breaker, unscrewed element, ordered new part, got it, screwed it in place, turned on breaker , it works just fine. 

Ordered a new element from Appliance PartsPros. Installed it in 10 minutes. 

Took the old one out and put the new one in. 

I went online for part which I found rather easy, to my surprise. On "parts pros", I noticed the video that gave me the confidence to fix it myself. Video was "right on". All fixed in about 10 minutes. Thank you. 

I googled the problem and saw that replacing the element was something I could do with a screwdriver! Easy duty! I wound up using some pliers also to retrieve the wire connector that fell backward into the oven insulation when I pulled the element out. I found the part number at the Appliance parts website from the stove/oven model number inside my oven door. Delivery was just a couple of days and I popped the circuit breaker off and the whole process took less than 15 minutes. The circuit breaker is in the basement and I am old... The cost was a fraction of a repairman's labor or a new stove. 

Replace it with a new bake element. 

I replaced the coil. The hard part of the repair was the screws holding the coil in the double oven were frozen and as it was the top oven door, of a double oven, it didn't come off. After the screws were drilled out the new coil went in easily and fit like a glove. Things are not always as easy as the videos show but with persistence you can get it done. 

Ordered the replacement element, installed it lickity-split (literally 2 machine screws) and is currently baking a strawberry shortcake ... yum yum double yum.
