How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6017532 / WPW10238100 Water Inlet Valve

Found the proper part through Appliance Part agent. Ordered it on a Monday, and received it the next day! Had a small problem with water outake tube, so I called Appliance Pro, and again received helpful information, Thanks. This has been the third time I've used Appliance Pro, and will continue to do so in the future. 

Replaced both water control valves. This unfortunately did not fix the issue but was an important troubleshooting step. After replacing both valves and having the same issue I troubleshot the water path, single control valve - up to filter housing - down to the water cooler/reservoir "S" (made sure this was not frozen and blocked) - back to double control valve) and narrowed it down to the water filter housing being a restriction. We don't use a water filter as the fridge is plumbed to the RO system. I bypassed the filter housing (and the water cooler/reservoir) with tubing directly from the single control valve to the double control valve. Water pressure out of the dispenser is now normal. Items to note. 1. the fridge locking feet use a VERY small 1/4in wrench.. make sure you have a wrench that small 2. the backside of the fridge was relatively clean. The compressor, fan, drip pan were MUCH cleaner than expected (Good design) 3. coils can be cleaned from the FRONT without having to pull the fridge out (Good design) 

I replaced the assembly myself. I had to turn off the water supply at the wall and disconnected two water hoses (water supply and water feed into the refrigerator). I pulled the old assembly by removing two screws. I unplugged one electrical connector. Reverse the process to install the new part. It was a simple ten minute job. I saved over a hundred dollars doing it myself!

I watched the videos on the kinds of repairs that might be needed. I selected what I thought was the correct part from the diagrams, and checked it was the one that went on my model fridge. When the part arrived (a solenoid valve), I installed it according to the video. It went in quickly and simply. Since the part in the video was different than the one I installed, I opened a live chat with a service representative. I noticed that the my fridge seemed to have water tubing different than the diagram. The rep clearly took some time to research an answer to my confusion. She told me to check the water inlet to the ice maker. Because I had watched the video on ice maker removal earlier, I was able to perform the removal in just a few minutes. The inlet had indeed frozen, indicating a weeping valve. Thus, I actually had installed the correct part. I turned everything back on, and had ice a couple of hours later. The live chat was an excellent tool to help me progress through a solution. The representative was timely, polite, and completely to the point. I will purchase here again should the need arise. 

The 2 parts where easy to get to from the back bottom access panel. Remove the 6 screws on the access panel. Then I removed 2 screws holding the water input valve. Then I disconnected the plug. There were 3 water lines attached pulled the clips holding on the water lines. The whole repair took 30 mins.

Replaced the water inlet valve as diagnosed and instructed in the Appliance Parts Pros video I found online. The only additional step I had to take was thawing out my ice dispenser fill line, but in total it was about a 15 min repair. It honestly took longer to move my fridge out from the encasing/cabinetry than it did to replace the valve.
