How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6018899 / WPW10293048 Gas Valve

I replaced the valve, it was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. I thought the valve was going to be inside the stove, but it turned out to be in the back which didn't require taking the stove apart at all. The valve was very easy to get to and easy to replace. 

Remove and replace the oven gas valve. The operational check was good. 

Both items are available within 5 days. Install was easy & stove top & oven work like new again. 

The trouble was confirmed using an ohm meter. The new valve unit installed easily. There are considerations as to your supply being natural gas or L.P. The oven orifice will need to be adjusted for proper flame from the oven burner. My install initially had my burner flame much too high. 

Diagnosed faulty gas valve based on Internet research supported by multimeter reading of ohms. Replaced gas valve and all is well 

Replaced the valve, and everything worked fine on first try. 

Thought is was the igniter but a new one didn't fix the problem. After further Googling, I learned it most probably was the gas safety valve. Measurements with a Ohm meter pointed more emphatically toward a failed valve. Slapped in a new one and the 'ol girl fired right up. Appliance parts pros are great!
