How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6011714 / WP8181694 Inlet Valve

I was able to complete the project, and found the video helpful.. I did find some missing info from the video: 1. You need a 20lb torque driver or be prepared to" work around" it with pliers and wrench. 2. There is a flange at the base of the threaded water inlets, sheikh requires a hard push to the right to unseat the old unit., allowing for its removal. 3. on reverse installation you will need to pull to the left to seat the unit to allow the screws to align 

I replaced the inlet valve with a new one. This was a fairly easy repair job. Only one small problem was encountered. The screw hole on the new valve did not line up with the hole in the cabinet. I had to make the hole longer with a file. 

Replaced the inlet valve. 

First, I called the local authorized service dealer and Whirlpool Customer Care, both of whom were clueless. Then I looked online for answers, and appliancepartspros.com popped up. I learned that a faulty water inlet valve is common in older machines (mine is 19 years old) and was likely the problem. The site listed washer model numbers that corresponded with the part I needed. When the new inlet valve arrived (in only 2 days!) my husband and I watched a step-by-step video on the website which made the project super easy. We worked together (I helped move the washer and handed him the tools in our very tiny laundry room) and completed the valve replacement in about 25 minutes. Washer still works great and no longer leaks! 

I first watched videos by ApplicancePartsPros (some of the best videos on YouTube!!). Started the repair process by cleaning out the drain filter (pulled out old sock!) and the water inlet valves (removed sand and grit from the screens ... we are on a well!). Still getting error code. Thought it might be the Control Board but decided to replace both the Inlet Valve and the Water Inlet Flow Meter because of the grit in the system, and because I suspected the water flow was a little slow. That worked ... have done 5-6 successful runs since replacing those parts. Our 2005 Whirlpool Duet is now working as good as ever. Couldn't have done it without APP's great parts service and their awesome videos. My wife is very happy (therefore so am I). 

The part I received was an exact match for the leaking part. I looked at a couple YouTube videos to see how to replace it. Replacing it was a simple process. The washer lid was held on by three Phillips head screws. The pump was attached with one Torx head screw, so you will need that Torx driver.

Was assuming this was the problem with my 16-year-old duet and sure enough when I checked blogs it lined up. Since I'm a believer in repair vs replace. I got on AppliancePartsPros.com like I have many times in the past and ordered my new valve. It arrived quickly and in good shape. I swapped out the valve according to the handy little video and we're off and running. All is good again.
