How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6007631 / WP312535 Fiber Washer

Replaced drum support rollers and bearing wear pads. 

Replaced the fiber washers on each side of the rollers 

At first, I ordered the wrong part (in "kit" of 2 wheels) that I thought was the right part number. Although there was several days delay in getting the correct parts including new wheel spindles, I am now in process of returning the wrong parts while the proper parts that I ordered (after identifying my mistake) arrived QUICKLY and the repair went off without a hitch. 

Lint buildup and humidity caused the rollers to rust to their axles, and stop turning. Disassembly of the dryer and replacement of the rollers was relatively easy and didn't take long. Appliancepartspros.com had helpful videos to show us how to do it, and having a phone with a camera to take pictures along the way made reassembly a snap. 

Replaced both drum support rollers and axles. Also went ahead and replaced dryer drum belt. Had to reinstall old dryer drum belt. I did not check well enough alignment of new belt and it got shredded within 10 minutes of dryer running. Lesson learned -- double / triple check belt alignment and check to be sure it is not twisted -- must be properly installed on drum, motor pulley and tensioner roller. Once the old belt was reinstalled , everything working perfectly. Nice and quiet now. 

The roller axle repair did not fix the issue. I installed two roller axles and rollers. Nor did the new belt. Moving on, I changed the belt tensioner and that did fix the issue. 

Appliance Part Pros's techs Chandler and Matt helped me diagnose the problem.....urged me to purchase multimeter...to ID correct part to replace. My dryer is now fully functional thanks to your company's services. 

By watching some videos I determined that the most likely causes were bad drum support rollers. To be sure, I planned to order two drum support rollers and an idler pulley wheel. Using the exploded parts diagram on this website I easily determined the parts I needed, and I ordered extra hardware--such as support rollers, clips, and washers in case something else was worn or damaged during my repair attempt. I removed a rear access panel and replaced the idler pulley wheel. I then removed the from cover and drum and in a few minutes replaced the drum support rollers. I took photos at each step before removing screws, after removing screws to remember how parts were oriented. The entire job going slowly and carefully, taking pictures and vacuuming lint from inside the cabinet took just under two hours and that included a break to eat dinner! 

Utube which took me Appliance Parts Pros among others & was able to determine cause, able order correct parts, install as in videos. Parts came in 2 days as advertised. Very satisfied, saved a bunch not having to call in repairman 

Replaced all wear parts, pulley, rollers and studs, Teflon washers, felt drum seals front and back, front drum bearing supports, belt and cycling thermostat. All for just over $200 in parts.
