I did a little internet research and found the fix video at AppliancePartsPros. This gave me the confidence to attempt the repair. I took the advice to replace both springs and linkages because I didn't want to pull the dishwasher out again. The only thing I did differently from the video was to remove kickplate to lessen the possibility of scratching our floor.
This was the second self repair of this dishwasher (broken door lock) that happened right before a holiday party.
