After my wife said, "It is broken, no more repairs, I want a new dryer" and seeing some of the prices for quality machines, I secretly read a few previous stories about repairing the issue.
Our Whirlpool Duet HE washer and dryer have been champs for over 10 years, and my 13 year-old son and I have replaced parts (belts, motor, pulley, rollers on the dryer before - all by using Appliance Parts Pros and their repair videos.
Though my son and I are NOT aspiring repair techs, we seem to bond on projects like this, so I thought we would give it a try, and ordered 3 items that seemed important. The only part I forgot to order was the thermal sensor.
We did test the thermal fuse with a cheap Ohm/Volt meter that I got for free at Harbor Freight years ago and sure enough, it was bad. But since we had the dryer disassembled, we replaced the coils and igniter too. FIFTY BUCKS - that is all I spent and the burner fired up like a FLAME THROWER ! ! !
The wife still is pissed, but the dryer has lived to dry another day.
