From researching I assumed the problem was the thermal fuse or door switch. I followed a YouTube video on how to change the thermal fuse, it involves taking the whole dryer drum out, but that actually wasn't too difficult. You don't even have to pull the dryer out from the wall, the top and front panels come off. Turns out the belt had broken, maybe that led to the fuse blowing? Replaced the belt and thermal fuse and dryer works great now.
