It appeared at first that the freezer had quit cooling and was defrosting. There was a clicking noise that sounded like it was tryjng to turn on and would do so for less than 10 seconds then would click back off. Then the fridge was noticably warmer in that section.
I was able to diagnose the problem by searching out these symptoms (refrigerator/freezer not cooling; hearing clicking sounds) online and watching youtube videos.
I ordered both a new capacitor and start relay because either could have been the issue though the videos said if you remove those pieces and shake them and hear a rattle then your start relay is almost surely the problem and needs replacing.
I went ahead and ordered and replaced them both just in case it wasn't just the start relay. It took 2 days to receive the parts and took me all 5 minutes to remove and replace the parts. There is an instructional video on this website under the part needed that very simply walked me through how to replace it. Those videos are worth their weight in gold.
It cost me $150 for both parts. This is the same cost it would have been to have a repairman come out to diagnose the issue.
