James E Suwanee , GA September 06, 2022 Appliance: Model GE TFX24RLR The freezer door suddenly would not close completely We have a GE side-by-side refrigerator freezer we purchased in January of 1991. It is still performing as well as new, even the ice maker. But the other day my wife called me to say she could not get the freezer door to close all of the ways. I checked and realized it had dropped and was not aligned with the cabinet opening. I lifted the door about 1/2" and it closed. So I researched the WEB and found out that the bottom door hinge had two cams that attempted to close the door through mating riser slopes, these had deteriorated. So I ordered the bottom hinge and the mating Cam Riser. I had to remove the freezer door in order to remove and replace these items. But, there was a multiple-wire electrical connector under the top hinge cover that needed to be disconnected, and the "water through the door" tubing came through the bottom hinge pin. The electrical was no problem. The water tubing was old and brittle, it crumbled as I worked. These parts are no longer available, although it is only 5/16" tubing. I wound up disconnecting the water valve circuit so there would never be water through that tubing again. The freezer door works fine, except now the refrigerator door will need the same repair soon.
