Michael R Concord , CA August 23, 2016 Appliance: Model 5989JA0002N Ice maker went out my kitchen was floodedi I'm now on my 3rd icemaker in this 7 yr. old LG refri. The original ice maker stopped making ice. The 2nd most recent allowed water to flow endlessly, flooding the kitchen. With help from the Q and A posted with AppliancePartsPros, I realize the best option is to replace the entire little unit-- it is Custom Cube [made in Korea]. It is easy to change out the icemaker, but it is necessary to remove everything from the freezer [this is a bottom-drawer type freezer] and you have to remove the drawer front entirely [the frig. owner's manual was very much helpful]. A pain, yes, but not terrible difficult. My new icemaker arrived with a broken plastic hanger piece that also cradles a bundle of wires & the little heater. I was able to take parts from the old non-functioning unit. Not included with the new icemaker was a half-funnel shape plastic 'cup' that attach on the water- rec'vg. end of the unit. You better save the old unit & all the screws that hold it in place. 2 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 1-2 hours
