Allen H Bossier City , LA July 28, 2023 Appliance: Model LG MODEL 5989JA0002N P.N. AP4442282 Replacement for LG ice maker 5989ja0002g I have an LG side by side refrigerator from 2004. It’s a great refrigerator, even after 19 years, with a giant ice storage bin that holds probably 15 pounds of ice. The ice maker quit making ice so I started looking for the replacement. The model number on the original ice maker is 5989JA0002G and that model number is no longer made. I found mixed information on what model number replaces the old one. The dimensions were my biggest concern because in the side by side the ice maker mounts on the back wall and anything much wider than 12 inches wasn’t going to fit. Looking at 4 different LG model numbers, sellers listed conflicting measurements, or none at all. Finally, I talked with Mary at AppliancePartsPros.com and she confirmed with her warehouse that LG model 5989JA0002N was less than 12 inches long. I received the new ice maker in about 3 days and sitting next to the old one, I couldn’t see any difference in size. The pigtail connector was an exact match to the old one, so that was a big plus. Installation of the ice maker was pretty easy, just one screw on the bottom and it slides on or off of 2 brackets and plug in the connector. Because the refrigerator has an ice dispenser / crusher, there is a panel cover under the ice maker where all the wiring and controller are mounted. This made it less easy and there are no videos I could find for this setup. Removing the 4 outer most screws lets it slip down and tilt to get to the 1 screw in the bottom of the ice maker. I did remove one of the guide rails for the ice tray to help get the cover out of the way. I did all of this quickly enough that nothing started to thaw, maybe 15 minutes the day I removed the old one and 15 minutes a week later when I installed the new one. Salvatore S Rockaway , NJ June 01, 2015 Appliance: LG Refrigerator LFC25760ST Ice maker tray was pitted and metals marticles were present in the ice I watched the video first. My freezer is a lower draw freezer and I needed to remove the upper draw before I had access to the ice maker. Only 2 screws required loosening and one screw removed along with disconnect of an electrical plug for the ice maker. Still needed to work in an awkward position to reach the screws of the ice maker. Didn't realize that the bail was different on the new ice maker until I put the drawer back in and it did not close properly. Needed to pull the bail off the old unit and replace it with the bail on the new unit. After that, all worked well. Takes a few hours for the ice tray to cool and make ice. Ken B Duluth , GA January 12, 2016 Appliance: Model LCF21770ST Ice maker water flooded the freezer then the floor running unimpeded Replaced the Ice Maker. At first I thought the issue was the water input solenoid valve. But eventually determined the ice maker sends power signal to the input solenoid valve, so replacing the bad ice maker was the cause. I learned appliances can be very modular and so you don't have to be an expert to swap out a bad part. In my case it was 3 simple screws and a electrical plug to fix. Good advice and online videos to help. And saved some money! Other good advice is to buy some cheap floor water sensors, to avoid major water damage. David M Panama City , FL June 02, 2014 Ice maker Replaced ice maker assembly which in its self is easy. The difficult part was my wife's bottom draw freezer. You gotta get down and ugly on the floor. Tips: 1. Don't let your wife buy a bottom draw freezer. 2. Replace the three Philips screws with 1/4 inch drive nut driver screws. Helps for blind screwing. Neal W Wildwood , MO April 14, 2019 Appliance: LG Refrigerator LFC22740ST Ice maker stopped making ice. Couldn't have been easier. Got my model number from fridge. Ordered the part. And with the help of repair video and other customers comments I went to work on the installation. The video was the key as there was a hidden screw. That would have been a real headache as getting your head in the freezer to look at what you're dealing with is difficult. I kick myself for paying big bucks for a repairman last time I needed this done.
