Replaced the bearings, main shaft and seal using the Maytag/Whirlpool original replacement parts. The bearing removal and press-in tool kit is a must for this repair. I ordered an inexpensive one online for under $25, and it worked great. Getting the main shaft out of the tub was tricky, it required a lot of Liquid Wrench and pounding back & forth with a hammer...... this destroyed the shaft, but the replacement bearing and seal kit included a new shaft.
Tips - This took me roughly 3 hours, and I did need my son to help move or hold things a few times. If you can move your washing machine to an open area, and lay it on it's side, the repair is a lot easier. Keep lots of towels and/or rags handy, some water will come out of the machine during dis-assembly. Make sure you use Loc-Tite (not included in the kit) on the new retainer nut.... my old one was loose before I even started the repair, and it's not easy to get to once everything is buttoned up. Watch the complete AppliancePartsPros.com video before you start, and reference it often during the repair. Let the Loc-Tite and the adhesive cure overnight before running the washer.
Before you start, make sure you have Liquid-Wrench, Loc-Tite (blue), and all the proper tools. The video will explain what tools you'll need.
I had this repair done around six years ago and it cost around $400+ back then, I'm sure it would be over $500 today. Doing it myself cost roughly $100 for the parts and $25 for the special bearing install tool.
