Daniel D Chandler , AZ March 24, 2017 Appliance: Model GFE28HGH Condenser fan motor replacement Not so easy! The fan is similar to a computer cooling fan but has a rounded housing that slips over a round condenser coil. It slides into a shoe bracket at the bottom. It should slide out towards the back of the refrig by approx 1/2 inch then pull up and out. But the fan shroud wraps around the condenser coil causing you not to be able to slide. You must first take a screw out that supports the condenser coil at the opposite end of the condenser "not easy to get to" then push the coil away from the fan motor. Also on my unit there was a refrigerant line blocking the fan motor from sliding that needed to be pushed down and out of the way. Not Happy with the quality of this unit. I have had other refrigerators last 20 years or more with no problems. Dan Arizona. Michael C Mount Sinai , NY July 24, 2020 Appliance: General Electric Refrigerator PFE28RSHHSS Refrigerator and freezer not cooling The most telling symptom was the hot cross bar between the refrigerator and freezer. The fix isn't difficult but definitely annoying. The fan is fitting over the condenser. The only way to remove/install is safety is to slide the condenser out. This is done by removing 1 screw at the opposite end. Sounds easy, right? Not! Very hard to get into the tight space. Had to remove the ice maker water supply (also 1 screw) to access condensor screw. Once you move the condenser, a little elbow grease and the fan came out. After that, plug in the new fan, slide it back in and reattached the condenser and ice maker supply. Not bad but annoying. Brad M Atwater , OH September 03, 2022 Freezer and refrigerator not cold. Replaced freezer evaporator fan. The AppliancePartsPros.com video. Very helpful. The fan located in the freezer compartment you must remove the bottom drawer front and the drawers. The fan is located at back wall of the freezer compartment. Be carful removing fan cover. I broke the tab on the bottom and had to glue it. From there I unplugged the fan and remove the fan from the tabs on the right side first then slide it out. Install the new fan in reverse. The fan at the bottom of the fridge was more challenging. Remove the cover at the bottom back of the fridge. Unplug the two connectors. On the right side of the round-shaped coils remove the sheet metal screw and unbolt the water valve bracket to loosen and move out of the way. Next at the right side of the col, there is a sheet metal support that holds the coil and is screwed to the bottom frame that needs removed to allow the coil to move. Find someone to help and have a person move the coil to the right to move the coil out of the fan, then another person slide fan out toward the back. Install a new fan in reverse.
