However, over time, the cord will wear and fray, eventually needing to be replaced. The exterior of the starter housing can also be damaged by rust or through impacts, and the internal spring can also fail. To replace the recoil starter assembly, users will need to first disconnect the spark plug. Next, remove the bolts holding the recoil starter assembly to the top of the engine. Lift away the assembly housing, including the inner cup, and then install the new housing by reversing these steps.This recoil starter assembly is a genuine OEM part.
