First I did some diagnostics -- took everything apart and did remedial trouble-shooting. I used the diagnostic manual (bought on ebay through a manual vendor) to trouble shoot the "appears to be dead" problem. Couldn't figure out the problem. I initially thought the unit was dead as I only tried the start/stop/cancel buttons.
