We scoured the web and there are few references to this so I want to add it in case it helps.
Replacing hinges solved the popping opening issue.
We could not solve our dishwasher door issue after a number of other tries: Latch, Catch, Ropes that attach to the springs that pull the door closed.
I tend to believe the solve could be different b/c all these things work together. But for us, we were skeptical that the hinge swap would work and we were very pleasantly surprised.

I turned off the breaker that suppled power to the unit.
I removed all the T-15 torx screws from the inside cover except one, which my wife helped me hold in. This prevents the cover from dropping off.
