The Gas Valve Cooktop is an OEM part for Bosch cooktops. This valve is responsible for controlling the flow of gas to the burners on the cooktop. It opens and closes to allow gas to pass through when a burner is turned on and stops the flow of gas when the burner is turned off.

Causes of a bad gas valve can include wear and tear over time, issues with the valve mechanism such as stuck or blocked components, or damage from exposure to moisture or impact.

Symptoms of a bad gas valve include:

  • Burners not lighting or sparking repeatedly without igniting
  • Uneven or unpredictable burner flame heights
  • Burners not getting hot enough for cooking
  • Burners that cannot be turned on or off
  • Gas leaks around the valve area

This OEM Bosch part is also compatible with Thermador, Gaggenau, and some Kenmore cooktop models.

Hello Steven. You will need to check the solenoid and see if it is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.

Hello Gidget, If the unit is getting no gas AND no spark the issue is most likely the start switch, (potentiometer). I tried to look it up for you but I need you to verify the model number from the units' I.D. tag since the exact/complete model number is necessary to pull the exact part for your unit. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Hello Ted. You may need to try to clean the burner on the unit and also clean the orifice on the unit. If they are dirty, they will affect the flow of gas coming to the burner.

Ted, With the flame being too low it is more likely that the valve would be the issue with burner not lighting in quick enough time and the flame not being large enough.

Hello Rick, If you are only having ignition issues with one burner you should use a paperclip or safety pin to clear the orifice. Also clean the burner area with an old toothbrush and hot white vinegar. Gas appliances are very susceptible to issues from spills. If this does not help, the gas valve for the rear center burner 00189987 may be in need of replacement. I'm sorry but this part 00189987 has been discontinued by the manufacturer and no satisfactory substitutions have been provided.

Mike, Based on the information it sounds like this would be a issue with the burner valve on the unit.

Kevin, With the unit sparking and having a new solenoid valve, this issue would be caused by a faulty gas valve part number 00412950.

Robert for Model Number SGCS365RS

Both my XLOs were not functioning, and I just completed the replacing the simmer controller and potentiometers. One XLO now works, but the other does not. Checked all wiring and after running the troubleshooting process, it appears that solenoid is the problem (voltage is good at controller and across solenoid, but it does not open for gas). Is this the correct solenoid for my unit? And how difficult is the replacement - do I need any special tools for gas line disconnect/connect? Does the part come with installation instructions? Thanks for the help

1 Answer

Robert, Yes, this solenoid 00411253 is the correct part number needed. There are no special tools required and it would be replaced getting into the unit the same way you did for the simmer control replacement.

Jim, Yes, with having already replaced the simmer control kit which comes with both potentiometers and there is still no gas getting to the rear burner, you will want to replace the gas solenoid.
