This genuine OEM part is a temperature control thermostat for refrigerators. The temperature control thermostat is the part that regulates and adjusts the temperature settings of the refrigerator. If the refrigerator is no longer maintaining the desired temperature settings, not cooling, or otherwise not operating properly, it will need to be replaced. To replace this part, make sure the refrigerator is unplugged. After unplugging, proceed to open the refrigerator door and remove all the interior shelving. Once removed, proceed to unmount the screws that hold the interior panels in place. Once loosened, remove the panels to access the temperature control thermostat. After locating the part, unthread the mounting screws that secure the thermostat to its housing. After unthreading, pull the old thermostat out and remove the wire harness that it is attached to. Replace it with the new thermostat and proceed to reinstall the interior panels of the refrigerator. This replacement part is sold individually and is compatible with Frigidaire, Electrolux, Gibson, Kelvinator, and Westinghouse brand refrigerators.

For Frigidaire Temperature Control Thermostat (Part Number: OEM6348684)

Marshall for Model Number fRS26HF5AB5

The refrigerator side is getting warm. The freezer is freezing and cuts on and off. There’s a vent on the back left top side in the refrigerator side. When I pushed the vent open, there is cold air coming into the refrigerator side when the freezer is running? When I stop opening the vent there's nothing. I held the vent open and the temp on the refrigerator side got down to where it was freezing the water? Any suggestions on what parts I need to order?

1 Answer

Marshall, the refrigerator temperature control 240383703 will need to be tested for continuity (with the refrigerator unplugged) from the black wired terminal to the purple wire with the white stripe. If there is not continuity, then the cold control has failed and would need to be replaced.

Edward, You will want to check the evaporator coils in the freezer to make sure that the coils have a full even frost pattern. If the coils are completely impacted with ice then this would be a defrost issue but if there is very little frost or an ice ball where the lines come into the unit then this would be a sealed system issue and would need to have a service tech to check the unit.

At first, my water line froze, then noticed several things in fridge side were frozen. Started turning down both controls until both were below 1. That worked well for about a week, then noticed everything in freezer was thawed. Compressor kept trying to cycle on every couple minutes, but would run 10 secs then shut down. Fan works, but runs constantly. Checked ohms on compressor, 3--4--7. Amps .02 both red & blue. Can you help me on which parts I need to order?

1 Answer

Russ, This issue sounds like the compressor is short cycling which would most likely be caused by a faulty thermostat. Since both sections started off getting too cold then the freezer thermostat would be the likely cause. This thermostat is not available as a separate part and would want to get the control box kit part number 5304482075.

My freezer works fine and must defrost perfectly because I have never had a problem with that. The problem is that the damper never closes and is freezing stuff in the fridge. I changed out the damper and it was closed when I put it in then, turned the fresh food control and it opened and will not close. I had a service repair person look at it and they put in a new fresh food control but after a short time the problem is still there. Also the thermostat wire to the freezer seems extremely long.

1 Answer

Darci, The manufacturer came out with a kit for this because just replacing the damper and the thermostat would not correct the issue with the unit. The part number that you will need is 5304482075.

Scott, Unfortunately we do not have information on the differences of the thermostats but the most likely difference would be in the way that they mount and if the tubing is long enough. It would only be recommended to install the part that is designed for your unit.

Hello Pete. It sounds like the freezer thermostat may be bad on the unit. It should work fine in the cold and warm weather on this model.

Chuck, You will want to access the rear wall of the freezer and check the evaporator coil. You will be looking to see if the coils are impacted with ice and make sure that the fan motor is running. If the coils are impacted then check the defrost thermostat and defrost heater. If they do not have continuity then replace the one that is bad. If they are both good then replace the defrost control.

Refrigerator is freezing everything even after setting temperature on refrigerator to zero. Freezer working fine. Landlord replaced defrost thermostat in freezer, but did not fix problem. I told him I thought it was on the refrigerator side involving the control temperature switch. I tried taking apart so I can order part and repair, but appears I am missing a screw or 2, it appears to still be fastened at the water filtration compartment which is preventing me from being able to repair refrigerator.

Iblashaun, If the unit is not defrosting then you will want to check the defrost thermostat to ensure that the thermostat has continuity. If the unit is just getting too cold then the issue will most likely be with the freezer thermostat. The damper to check it just cycle the unit off and back on, this should allow the damper to open and close.
