Hello Jerry, The dishwasher door is designed to close on its' own if nothing is on it. If you pull the rack out, this should be enough weight to prevent the door from closing.

Everett, if both links have failed then yes you would need both. However, if only one has failed then it would be at the discretion of the repairer as to whether or not to replace both links.

Hello Norbert, The multiple holes in the base for different adjustments are in case the unit has had a custom panel kit installed. If it had a wooden panel installed, the door would be considerably heavier and this requires a stronger spring tension. For this reason, the slots were provided by the manufacturer. The proper adjustment is where the door closes slowly on its' own with the rack in but the weight of the empty rack holds the door opened.
