Steve for Model Number 316224201

I removed the burner (Big eye) from my glass top stove because it blow out. I can see the burn mark where it broke apart. I kept my old burners from my last glass top stove and was wondering if I can use one of the burners from my old stove. The piece (Don't no name)that is sticking out of the burner has two smaller ends that you plug the wires in from the stove. My old one has two bigger ends which two of the wires from the stove want fit in. If I change the wires to bigger end to fit my old burner, will it cause damage or will it heat up?

1 Answer

Hello Steve. No, you will need to order the correct element needed for the glass top and not the old one that is different. Most elements are different sizes and watts and will not interchange unless the model numbers of the ranges were the same. Hope this helps.

Terry, "The procedure for servicing the smooth glass cooktop and surface elements is the same as in previous models. The front of the cooktop can be lifted by removing the two screws that secure it to the range chassis(in the top of the oven door opening). With the cooktop in the raised position the surface heating elements, warmer zone element and their wiring connections are accessible. The top can be held open by using a wood or plastic prop rod approximately 28 inches long. 1. Before removing the element be sure to note the locations of the element mounting clips in the support channel slot. The replacement element must be installed in the same position. 2. Carefully remove the wires from the element. Take note of the terminal identification on the element terminal block for each wire connection. 3. Before the element can be removed from the support channel the locking tab on the mounting clip must be closed 4. Remove the mounting screw that secures the element support channel to the cooktop. by squeezing shut with a pair of pliers. After the repair is complete the tab can be re-opened by using an awl or similar instrument. 5. Carefully pull the support channel away from the cooktop far enough to disengage the element mounting clips from the channel. Slide the element out from between the support channel and the cooktop. Reinstall or replace the element by reversing steps." Good Luck and Thanks

Hi Wayne. Either behind the control panel or behind the lower storage drawer there is a supplied wiring diagram supplied with your unit. Remove power. Remove door. Get the lower front lower screws out that hold the top to the trim plate. Lift up and support the top . Mark all screw holes with a felt marker that you will take off pertaining to your particular burner. There is a mount plate that bolts both front burners onto the lower side of the top. Use the wiring diagram and / or mark the wires so you will replace them on the burner exactly correct. You also need to keep in mind how to re-mount the burner so you have it centered with the top opening so your pan will heat correctly. Reassemble on reverse. Thank you.
