The Starter is an OEM replacement part for Frigidaire refrigerators. This component is crucial for initiating the compressor, which is responsible for cooling the refrigerator. The starter works by providing the necessary electrical power to get the compressor running, ensuring that the refrigerator maintains the correct temperature.

Causes of a bad starter can include electrical malfunctions, wear and tear over time, or damage from power surges. A faulty starter can prevent the compressor from starting, leading to cooling issues.

Symptoms of a bad Starter include:

  • The refrigerator not cooling properly
  • The compressor not running or frequently cycling on and off
  • Unusual clicking or buzzing noises from the compressor area
  • The refrigerator being warmer than usual or food spoiling quickly

This OEM replacement is also compatible with Electrolux, Gibson, Kelvinator, and Kenmore models.

For Frigidaire Compressor Start Relay (Part Number: OEM6340830)

Tricia Sipos for Model Number MFU20F3GW7 Frigidaire UPRIGHT

I BOUGHT THIS BRAND NEW IN @ 2000 ish . It has been plugged in my garage in the same spot since I brought it home in . My garage is not climate controlled, live in Missouri. hot summers & cold winters. I have had no problems with it until the last year or so. I opened it one day and everything was thawing, I removed the food, unplugged it and plugged it back in the next day. It worked just fine for a month or so and then did it again. I repeated doing this a few times and then just kept water jugs in it for cooler ice so no loss when stops working. What would cause it to work for a time and then stop ? when working it freezes solid with no problems. I would like to fix it but where should I start ? What should I do first? much thanx... Tricia & Steve

Tricia & Steve, Thanks for the question!!! Sounds like you have a defrost issue. Three items to check, the timer, the defrost thermostat, and the heater. Check out this video on our YouTube page for good instruction on how to check things out!! https://youtu.be/OkJ7fXtenbU

John, The start device for this unit will not cause this issue if the unit is building up frost.

James, Check to see if the compressor is running and if it is not then this will be a faulty start device as long as the start device is getting 120 vac.

Michael, If the compressor is the only thing not running then you would want to check to make sure that there is power to the start device. If there is power then the issue will be a faulty start device which will need to be replaced.

Al, If only the top shelf is frosting up then this would be a issue with the sealed system in which you would need to have service for this issue.

Ron, Unfortunately there is no way to test the start relay for a compressor. You would want to test voltage to the relay and as long as it is getting 120 vac to it the compressor should run. If you were to change the relay and the compressor still does not start then the compressor would be the issue.
