The Door Switch is an OEM part for Frigidaire microwaves. It plays a crucial role in the microwave's overall function by detecting when the door is open or closed. The door switch communicates this information to the control board, enabling it to safely operate the microwave's electronic components and magnetron when the door is shut.

Symptoms of a bad door switch include:

  • The microwave failing to operate or function properly with the door closed
  • Inability to start or pause operation when the door is opened
  • Error codes or failure messages appearing on the display related to door functionality

Causes of a bad door switch can be wear and tear over time, damage from repeated opening and closing of the microwave door, or impact from accidental mishandling.

This OEM replacement is also compatible with Electrolux, Admiral, Crosley, White-Westinghouse, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Frigidaire Microwave Door Switch (Part Number: OEM18691854)

1 Answer

John, the upper 5304509460, lower 5304509460, and middle 5304509459 door switches would need to be tested for continuity while the microwave power cord is unplugged. The middle should have continuity when the door is open and no continuity when the door is closed. The upper and lower switches would have continuity when the door is closed and no continuity when the door is open. If these test good, it would be likely that the main control 5304509637 has failed.

John, I couldn't find your model number but most models are the same. Primary Switch and Door Sensing Switch are normally open, and the Monitor Switch is normally closed. Again on most models, the Monitor Switch is the one in the middle. Hope this helps!

Joe, The parts that you would want to get for the door switches will be 2 of part number 5304509460, one for the top and one for the bottom. You will also want to get the door switch part number 5304509459 for the middle switch.

Hello Steve, This sounds more like either a harness issue or a connection issue. I would first check the connections on each end of the harness and, if no problem is located, you can check the harness with an ohmmeter. The wiring should show the same reading on the meter as when the meter leads are touched directly together. If any discrepancy is found, replace the harness.

Mickey, The correct test would be a continuity test with the switches in there home position. You will want to see a change from open to closed or reverse when the door is opened or closed. When we say open or closed we are referring to the switch having continuity or not. You always need to change all three switches at the same time.

Hello Barbara, You either have a failing door switch, (two 5304509460 and one 5304509459), or the latch hook 5304509457 screws are loose and the assembly holding the switches is able to move around. You will need to remove the air grille and then the control panel to access the door switch assembly.

Annie, You will want to check the door switch on the unit to ensure it is good. Also check the door latch on the unit to make sure that it is making good contact with the switches.
