This temperature control regulates the cooling system to maintain the set temperature. Replacing a failing control restores stable temperatures and dependable operation so your appliance cools as expected. What it does:

  • Monitors internal temperature and cycles the cooling system on/off to hold the setpoint
  • Lets you adjust the desired temperature via the control
  • Helps prevent overcooling and warm spots
  • Common symptoms of a bad control: temperature doesn't match setting, unit runs constantly or won't run, no change when adjusting the control, erratic cycling
What's included:
  • 1 temperature control assembly
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing
  • Note wire positions; move connectors one at a time to the new control
  • If a sensing bulb/capillary is present, route it carefully without kinks or sharp bends
  • After installation, set to a mid setting and allow up to 24 hours for temperatures to stabilize

Questions & Answers

For Frigidaire Temperature Control (Part Number: OEM17850084)

1 Answer

Joe, replacing the temperature thermostat should not affect the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger is what connects the evaporator to the compressor. This would indicate a sealed system issue. If the heat exchanger freezes up and then thaws out when it cycles off, that could cause water to run unto the floor.

Mark, If the temperature control is showing as no longer available then there will be no replacement that we can suggest that will work for the model.

John for Model Number 25360722006

So, the fridge started freezing everything. Replaced thermostat (5304497345). Ran for a day. Now doesn't run. I can hear a click from under the floor panel when I turn on the t-stat. Pulled the t-stat again and disconnected all wires thinking I did something wrong (didn't make a mental note of which terminals were hooked up...doh) and reconnected them based on the Q & A here. Maybe the run capacitor? Or did I not get the wiring right and cooked the new t-stat?

1 Answer

John, based on the information provided, with the clicking coming from under the cabin when the thermostat is activated, the issue would either be with the start/run relay 216954208 which is the most likely, or with the compressor itself which is less likely.

Hello Jack, The temperature control for model FRU17B2JW5 is 5304497345. Part AO3407505 does not come up as a valid part number. The black wire is the hot wire that connects to terminal 6, the red goes to the ambient thermostat from terminal 3, and the blue goes to the defrost timer and fan relay from terminal 4. I know there are only three terminals on the temperature control but they are labeled 6, 3, and 4 by the manufacturer.

Jack, Next each terminal there should be a number, here is how the unit should wire up, number 6 terminal should be black wire, number 4 terminal will be blue wire and the red will go to terminal number 3.

Hello Paula. Just hook the wires up like the old one. Ground to ground and the 2 others do not matter which terminal they go to.
