The Thermal Limiter is an OEM part for Frigidaire dryers. It acts as a safety feature, designed to prevent the dryer from overheating by shutting down the appliance when the internal temperature exceeds safe limits.

Symptoms of a failing Thermal Limiter include:

  • The dryer failing to start or stopping abruptly during a cycle
  • No heat being generated while the dryer is running
  • The dryer overheating or feeling excessively hot

Common causes for a bad thermal limiter include restricted airflow due to a clogged lint filter or venting system, component failure from age or faulty manufacturing, and unusually high operating temperatures from overloading the dryer or mechanical failures elsewhere in the system. When a thermal limiter trips or fails, it must be replaced to restore functionality to the dryer.

This OEM replacement is also compatible with Electrolux, Gibson, Kelvinator, and Kenmore models.

JP, if you're sure the venting pipes and vent hood are clear and the lint filter is clean and the dryer isn't overloaded then yes, it could be a sticky cycling thermostat.

Dennis, You will want to check the high limit thermostat when the unit is hot to see if it is kicking out. This issue will likely be caused by a faulty control thermistor 134587700.

J.B. You will want to test all the thermostats and thermal fuses on the unit for continuity. If they have continuity then There are 2 components other than the thermostats which would cause the heating element not to work. First is the motor and second the timer. The best option is to disconnect the power to the unit and access the heating element. Disconnect one wire that is going to the heating element, preferably the one on the thermostat side. Plug the unit back up and using a multimeter you will want to turn the dryer on and test for 120 vac at the terminal on the heater where the wire was disconnected. What this will do is eliminate the heater element itself and the motor. If there is 120 vac at this point then you know the heater is good and the motor is good because the other 120 vac coming through the thermostats is the timer side of the circuit. If there is not 120 vac at that point then you will want to test the other terminal on the heater and check for 120 vac. If there is not 120 vac then the motor would be bad and if there is 120 vac then the heater would be the issue. If there is 120 vac at each point then the heater is faulty.

Chris, The E64 error code represents a open heater circuit. Check the heater coils and connections for open circuits and replace the heater and/or wiring. If this does not correct the issue then the control board is the issue.

Chelle, The issue with the unit would be a heater circuit that is opening. You will want to test the heater and thermostats for continuity. Check the wiring to the heater to make sure that there is no damage.

Hello Brain. You have to have a venting air flow issue. Run the dryer without the vent hooked up and see how it does. Also, clean out the blower wheel and lint air duct.
