The Compressor Overload and Start Relay is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. It plays a crucial role in starting the refrigerator’s compressor and protecting it from electrical overloads.

Over time, these components can fail due to electrical wear, overheating, or repeated cycling. This can cause the refrigerator to malfunction or stop working altogether.

Symptoms of a bad compressor overload and start relay include:

  • The refrigerator not cooling properly
  • Clicking noises from the back of the refrigerator
  • The compressor not running
  • Overheating of the refrigerator

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Will for Model Number GE model GTS18FBMERCC

I have GE model GTS18FBMERCC refrigerator. A clicking sound began in the back of the refrigerator and simultaneously the freezer and the refrigerator portion began to warm. I pulled the refrigerator out and found the clicking noise coming from a piece near the compressor. I looked up the piece and found that it is actually two pieces put together - the capacitor and a piece called 5SP overload/ptc. I took the combined piece off, it just plugs into the compressor, and reinstalled it after the refrigerator had been off for about an hour. Everything worked fine for about ten minutes, then everything stopped - the fan, etc. I checked to make sure the electrical outlet that I use for the refrigerator still had juice. It does. Could failure of either of those pieces make the entire refrigerator stop working?

Hello Will, If the compressor is failing and pulling too much amperage, it will blow the new start relay. The only way to correct this issue is by replacing the compressor WR87X10224.

Kevin for Model Number HSS25GFPJ

The unit was clicking from the back area. I checked online and it appeared to be the overload relay. (WR0910106). I bought and replaced such. The unit never did stop working. After I put the new part in, now the compressor will not come on at all. I put the old part back in and no help. Now just the clicking sound and zero compressor. The clicking is coming from the main board. And of course, I am leaving to go out of town on Thursday. Any help is appreciated!!

Hello Kevin. If you replaced the over load, it may be a bad main control board causing the issue with the unit.
