The Belt Drive is an OEM replacement part for GE dryers. It is responsible for transferring power from the motor to the drum. A bad belt drive can be caused by normal wear and tear over time, as well as excessive load or strain on the dryer drum. 

Symptoms of a bad belt drive include:

  • The dryer drum not spinning or rotating.
  • Unusual noises coming from the dryer during operation.
  • The drum not tumbling smoothly or consistently.
  • The belt appearing frayed, cracked, or broken.

Causes of a faulty Belt Drive can include normal wear and tear over time, excessive tension or stretching, or physical damage from improper installation or foreign objects.

This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Hello Lorenzo and thank you for your question. If there is not a failed belt switch or door switch (should have continuity when activated), then the failure would be in the run winding of the motor WE49X28295 or the centrifugal switch of the motor not shifting.

A squeaking noise from the dryer could be due to a belt, the drum bearing, the blower wheel, loose screws allowing metal panels to rub together, or a number of other things.
