The Charcoal Filter is an OEM replacement part for GE microwaves. It helps control odors within the microwave by filtering the air during the cooking process. As microwaves heat up food, vapors, and smells can get trapped inside. The charcoal filter works to absorb and neutralize these odors before they are released back into the air.

Causes of a bad filter include exceeding the recommended replacement schedule or exposure to extremely pungent cooked foods on a regular basis.

Symptoms of a charcoal filter that needs replacing include:

  • Noticeable odors emitted from the microwave when in use or just after cooking
  • Food taking on smells from previous meals
  • The filter material appears exhausted or completely dark/black

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

For Ge Charcoal Filter (Part Number: OEM9614505)

Cindy J for Model Number General Electric Profile Microwave JVM2070WHoo1 Spacesaver

My microwave is an over the stove vent space saver. I need to replace the light bulbs and the charcoal filter. The website lists this model as a counter top microwave so I want to make sure I am ordering the right filter and light bulbs. Cam you tell me if the ones that the website says are compatible will work on my microwave since it is not a counter top model? Also, the microwave shorts out at times but if I hold the top charcoal filter open then it will work. Is this malfunction being caused because it needs a new filter? Thanks, Cindy

Hello Jim. You need to remove the outer cover off the unit to clean in there, and if the motor is loud, it may need to be replaced.

Raul, No , sorry but replacing the charcoal filter will not make the microwave heat. You'll need to remove the microwave from the wall, remove the outer cabinet and make several component checks to determine the issue. We'd send you the information, but you forgot to attach an e mail address. Thanks

Hello, Once you remove the two screws, (be sure it's the correct two as I have noted that there are a total of four on some models screws up there), it should slide to the left and come right off. Only two of the screws require removal for the grill to come off. You can bump it towards the left with the heel of your hand.

Hello Patrick! The charcoal filter used on your model JVM2070SK02 is part number WB02X10956. If the microwave is not vented to the outside it will use the charcoal filter. The filter is located under the top vent grille. Thanks.
