Symptoms of a bad Washer Top include:

  • Visible cracks, dents, or damage to the top panel

Mary, If the lid and dispenser are rusted from bleach spillage, we would think you will also need the WH44X21834 cover assembly finished, we would have to think the rust and corrosion would have migrated down, around and under the dispenser, causing a "weak" area in the top panel/cover. The first thing to do is remove power to the washer, and turn off the water supply faucets at the wall. Remove the three ¼-in. hex-head screws from the rear of the control panel. Rotate the top of the control panel forward approximately 1 inch and slide to the right to unlock the 3 bottom locking tabs. Lift the panel up and off the cover panel and rotate down. To remove the front panel: Locate 2 spring clips between the top cover and front panel by aligning a putty knife with the left or right edge of the lid. Insert the putty knife and push forward to release clips. Rotate the front panel forward and lift off the bottom tabs. To remove the cover/lid assembly: Remove the front panel. Remove the two ¼-in. hex screws securing the front of the cover/lid assembly to the cabinet. Remove the lid switch. Pull the top cover toward you while lifting up the front edge to release the side catches. Slide the top cover to the left to release from the 3 tabs. Remove and transfer or replace the dispenser and lid switch to the new cover and reverse the procedure to install the cover and lid. Thanks,

Hello Kenneth, The first, and most important part of this or any other appliance disassembly, disconnect the unit from the power supply. Using a puddy knife, (paint scraper), pop the spring clips between the main top and the main front. This will allow the top of the main front to drop forward. Lift it off of the bottom clips and set it aside. Now the lid switch is exposed from the bottom of the main top. Reach inside the unit and push the lid switch up and it will pop out. Now turn it sideways and feed it back through the hole. Unplug it from the harness and the removal is complete. Of course the installation is the reverse of this process.
