Dj February 14, 2020 for Model Number tbx18sabrrww How do I test the defrost thermostat in this model?? The freezer is cold but the fridge is warm. The evaporator coil in the freezer is all frosted up with ice, does this mean a bad defrost thermostat? Or bad defrost heater?
1 Answer DJ, the defrost thermostat WR50X10010 is tested for continuity and it should have continuity when it is exposed to temperatures less than 35°F. The defrost heater WR51X464 would be tested for resistance and should measure 38O of resistance. If these items check good, then the most likely failure would be in the defrost timer WR9X520. Mike June 14, 2019 for Model Number MTX18GIZARWW Everything stays to cold in the refrigerator. I turned it down but all the food and drinks are getting frozen in the refrigerator part.
1 Answer Hello Mike, You should check the temperature control WR9X559 since it is also a problem issue with this design. I'm sorry but this part has been discontinued by the manufacturer and no satisfactory substitutions have been provided. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter. Read More...
Erin August 02, 2014 for Model Number TBX18SPB A week ago, my refrigerator stopped running. I have been able to make it start running again by manually moving the defrost timer (on the back wall of fridge near temperature control knob) a quarter turn to the right. It has been stopping anywhere between 12-24 hour cycles. Each time, manually moving the timer kicks it back on. When the fridge is not running, the light is still functioning and the breaker does not pop, so there is not an issue with the power. Do you think I need a new defrost timer or defrost sensor or do you think there could be another issue? Thank you!
Thavy T June 08, 2014 for Model Number pfss6pkxass Water tank frozen, no ice, got water, and fresh food floor flooded with ice and water, what went wrong? thank you.
1 Answer Thavy, The most likely cause for the water on the floor in the refrigerator compartment and no ice or water would be that the water tank heater went bad and allow the tank to freeze. The part number that you would want to get is WR17X12468 water tank assembly which will have the heater with it. Read More...
Russ January 08, 2013 for Model Number CTX18DABORWW The freezer is freezing, but the fridge is warm. I believe the fan in the freezer is not turning. I think the fan is bad.
1 Answer Hello Russ. If there is power to the fan motor, and it does not run, you will need to replace the evaporator fan motor WR60X30349 in the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Billy December 28, 2012 for Model Number CTX18GAZARWW I have water build up under the vegetable drawers that I have to soakup every few days.Where would I find a drain plug. I see on the back there is a drain tube running down the outside. Does that pull out or can I get to it behind the temp control panel?
1 Answer Hello Billy, You can pull the drain line out of the back of unit to clean out. When you pull the drain out you will want to clean out inside the hole as well. There is build up that is causing water to not drain properly. Read More...
Rick February 25, 2012 for Model Number CTX18DABORWW The freezer works well, but it looks like it is not defrosting. The lower part, the fresh food section is not cooling and the fan, although working, is not pushing cool air into the fridge. It cools when I turn off the entire unit and plug it back in for a couple of days. What part should I replace?
1 Answer Hello Rick. The most common part failure on this design is the defrost thermostat WR50X10010. I do, however, reccommend testing the component before replacing it. While it is cold, it should read continuity. When it gets above about 50°, it should read open. If this is the case, be sure to defrost the unit with a hair dryer before reassembly. The defrost circuit is designed to melt the frost build-up between defrost cycles and is not capable of melting the ice that accumulates when the defrost cycle hasn't been functioning properly. If the defrost thermostat reads good, the next culprit will be the defrost timer, as the defrost heater WR51X464 in this model is a calrod element and while they can fail, failure is much fewer than the glass tube type heater. While your in the evaporator compartment testing the defrost thermostat, you can test the defrost heater. The defrost thermostat attaches on one end to the defrost heater. The heater should read anywhere from 15 to 40 ohms of resistance. The defrost timer is easiest to test. You should find the defrost timer in the ceiling of the fresh food compartment. If you look directly up at the control housing assembly, you will see a small hole with a plastic piece inside which has still another hole. I use a small screwdriver to reach inside the first hole, into the second hole and turn clockwise. If you doing it right, as you turn, you will hear a clicking. Don't turn too fast as you will soon notice a louder click and the compressor and fans will shut off. You have just forced the unit into defrost. Now you just wait. After anywhere from 18 to 28 minutes, the defrost timer (if working properly) will kick out of defrost and the fans and compressor will come back on. If you wait 30 minutes and this has not occurred, the defrost timer WR9X520 is bad. If no tests prove a component bad, the problem is probably the electrical contacts in the defrost timer. I hope this was useful. Good luck! Read More...
