James, The most likely cause for this issue will be a faulty thermal cutoff which will need to get the wire harness to replace this and would need part number WD49X23779.

Hello Marcy. You should be able to scrape off the melted plastic. If not, then remove the heater nuts under the bottom of the unit and unplug the wires. Then lift the element out of the brackets and install new one in reverse order.

David, You will want to check the thermostat for the heater and make sure that it has continuity. If this checks ok then check the wiring between the control board and the heater. If the wiring is good then the control board will be the cause of the issue. Also make sure that you are using a rinse aid.

Nick, If you look under the kickpanel of the dishwasher there should be a tech sheet. Put the unit into a diagnostic mode and set it to where it activates the heater. Then test at the control or at the heater for 120 vac. If there is not 120 vac then the control board is faulty.

Ralph, You will want to check the heating element to make sure that it is getting 120 vac to it. If not then check wiring back to the controls and if the wiring checks ok then the control board would be the issue. If there is 120 vac getting to the element but the element is not working then replace the element.
