For Ge Fan Kit (Part Number: OEM15993543)

Gary Kruse for Model Number GE Monogram ZET 1SOM1SS

The Cooling Fan in my oven is not working is not Working. During a cleaning operation I got a F9 error and noticed the control panel and knobs got very hot. I followed the test procedure and found that the everything I was able to test worked okay except the cooling fan did not come on. I've removed the oven from the wall and removed the cooling fan from the oven. I would like to bench test the cooling fan. There are Three wires attached to the motor white with a red stripe, white with a black stripe and a solid black wire. Can I test the high and low speed operation by applying 120 volts across the blk and wht/blk for high speed and across the blk and wht/blk for low speed?

1 Answer

Gary, If you apply power to the white/black stripe to black (high), and White with Red stripe to Black (low) to see if the fan is working. If it works then the limiter would be the issue.

FGMR, You will want to check to make sure that the cooling fan on the unit is operating. If it is not then check the fan thermostat and make sure that it is opening when it gets to about 150 degrees. If it is then the fan would be the most likely cause for this issue.

This is a built-in oven. This weekend the panel with the controls became very hot during use. Later it would not work and I had to reset the circuit breaker at the breaker box to make it operational again. (The clock remained on, but nothing worked until I reset the breaker). I called the dealer we purchased from and they stated it sounded like the fan that cools this part of the oven had stopped. Am I looking for the right item? Should I check something else first? Thanks, Dave

I asked above about the fan kit cooling the electronics area of my oven, and was told based on my description the problem was the oven temperature sensor. I purchased both the fan kit and the temperature sensor, After pulling the oven out, turned on the oven to see if the old fan kit turned on. It did not. Then I connected the new fan kit, and sure enough it always runs when the oven runs. This fan kit runs air around the whole outside of the oven chamber which keeps the heat from building up in the electronics area. The fan kit fixed my problem. I did not change the oven temperature sensor. I don't see a way to add this to the question I asked so other people can benefit from what I learned.

Hello Rick. The error code you provided F9 was indicated as the temperature sensor from the manufacturer. We appreciate this information and have added your response for others to see. Thank you.

Brassbender, Yes in order to remove the cooling fan, you will need to remove the oven from the wall and access the fan from the rear of the unit.

Hello Alan, Since you would be reading across part of the winding, you will most likely read a resistive value but, since current will never be applied through the circuit in this manner, the value will not be listed anywhere. The current will flow from wht/blk to gy for high speed or from wht/rd to gy for low speed.
