Questions & Answers

For Ge Dryer Idler Pulley (Part Number: OEM7860642)

1 Answer

Daniel, the idler pulley WE12X83 would be used with the model number provided. However, it would be recommended that the front and rear bearings would be inspected for any debris or wear that could cause an improper rotation.

Three questions. My dryer is very old and is not showing up on your site. It has an idler pulley with a built in spacer (one side is longer than the other), which is nessesary to pull it over to line the belt up. The insides of it are worn out. I can't find the right replacement. Also I got a rear bearing kit, WE25M40, which seems to fit, but is different. The old one had a clip to hold it in the back. Will it be okay? The belt was very shredded and broken as well. What is the belt part number?

1 Answer

Judy, The parts to repair your machine will look different than the original parts, but they are the "factory direct replacement parts" recommended by the manufacturer, and will work in your older machine. The WE25M40 / WE25M40 Drum Bearing Kit, Will fit and operate properly in your machine, the retainer e clip was eliminated many years ago and isn't needed. The correct belt to order is WE12X10014 / WE12X10014 Belt. The WE12X81 / WE12X81 Idler Pulley, Is definitely different than the original idler pulley, but it will install and work on your dryer. It may take a little manipulation, but it will align and work.

The dryer was making a lot of noise. I purchased a rear bearing repair kit, part #WE25M40. On the original drum bearing, there was a circlip on the end of the shaft. I assume this was to keep the drum from moving forward toward the front of the dryer. There were also 3 or 4 thrust bearings, which I can't remember in what positions they were installed. My question is, does the new bearing eliminate this circlip and thrust bearings? Seems like the only thing keeping the drum from moving forward would be the felt ring around the inside of the door.... Thanks!

Hello Murry. The o-ring on the bearing shaft prevents the tub from sliding forward.

Hello Phil, There should be no issue as long as the extension is positioned so the belt cannot make contact with anything since this extension is intended to prevent the belt from contacting the idler pulley.

Mark S. for Model Number DDC 0580NCDLWH

Hi, I just replaced the drum hub bearing on this machine with a part from you. It worked well. When I was re-assembling the machine, I discovered that one of the nylon bushings in the hub of the idler pulley was breaking. When I do a search for my model, I come up with DDC0580BBL, which seems to be close enough as it worked fine for the drum hub bearing. So on the 'Blower and Drive Assembly' page, I see the two nylon bearings labelled as part #247, which shows up as GE part # W2X81 'Idler Pulley'. Can you tell me if the new idler pulley is designed with the center hole sized to replace both the original pulley and the bearings? Hope this question makes sense. Thanks, Mark S.

1 Answer

Hello Mark, The idler pulley WE12X81 is the correct part for the unit and as I understand your question, the idler pulley is to be greased, but it has no bearings. If it appears to have bearings, it is worn out. You will notice when you get the new one that it is one piece and just slips onto the idler rod or idler spring as the manufacturer calls it.
