Note: 10-watt bulb

The Lamp is an OEM part for GE dryers. This part illuminates the dryer's drum interior, enhancing visibility for loading and unloading garments. It ensures that users can easily see their clothes and any items inside the drum, particularly useful in low-light conditions.

Replacing a non-functional dryer lamp is important for maintaining the functionality and convenience of your GE dryer, ensuring you can effectively manage your laundry.

Symptoms of a malfunctioning dryer lamp include:

  • A lack of light inside the drum when the dryer door is opened or during operation
  • Flickering or intermittent light indicating a loose connection or nearing the end of the lamp's lifespan
  • Complete failure to illuminate, which could stem from a burnt-out bulb or electrical issues within the dryer

This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

JC, The light socket will only have 2 wires that will go to it and will not matter which terminal each wire is connected to. As for the door switch, this will be where you will want to check. On the door switch, there will be lettering. There will be COM, NO, and NC. Each wire has a specific location on this switch and miswiring it can cause issues. The brown wire with a yellow stripe will go on the terminal labeled NO. The white wire that goes to the light socket will go to the terminal labeled NC and the other white wire will go to the COM terminal.

Hello Will, You can unplug the unit or turn off the breaker to it and use a pair of needle nosed pliers to grasp the metal threaded part of the bulb WE05X20431 and twist it counterclockwise. This will eventually remove the remaining part of the bulb. You should be careful removing this part from the pliers since it can still cut you. If the socket is damaged during this process you can replace it WE5M48.

Vincent, Based on your model the light would be located at the front of the unit around the door area and would just need to be unscrewed and installed. It is not showing any type of cover on the light.
