The Lid Lock Service Kit is an OEM part for GE washing machines. This safety feature is crucial for top-load washers, ensuring safe and efficient operation by preventing access to the washer drum during cycles.

The kit includes:

  • Lid Lock & Harness Assembly
  • White Bezel
  • Gray Bezel

  • Gray Strike

Common causes of a malfunctioning lid lock include wear over time, damage to the lock mechanism, or electrical issues that prevent the lock from engaging or disengaging properly. Exposure to moisture and constant use can also affect the performance of the lid lock system.

Symptoms of a bad lid lock include:

  • The washer not starting or advancing in the cycle
  • Error codes related to the lid lock
  • The lid not locking or unlocking as expected
  • The washer stopping mid-cycle

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Ge Lid Lock Service Kit (Part Number: OEM21676758)

Dianne, when the unit is turned off, the start button can be pressed and held down. This will cause an error code to appear as long as the button is held down. If an error code does not appear after 10 seconds, the main control WH22X38441C would be the cause of failure.

My washer is filled with water and won't spin or drain. The lid does lock. You can hear it click as it engages. The "lid locked" light goes on. I also can't open the lid. However .... diagnostics gives me 3 fault codes for a lid lock/switch issue. If the lid lock is engaging like my scenario, will replacing this part even fix this error? Prior to this issue, I was having pretty significant screeching during a portion of the agitation during the wash cycle, which I was about to try to tackle. Now this lock issue . Any way this screeching and lock can be related?

1 Answer

Bo, The lock issue and the screeching noise would not be related and this issue of the error would be a lid lock that would need to be replaced.

Hello Gary, You should go into the consumer error mode and pull the fault codes. This will help pinpoint the issue without the cost of throwing parts at the unit. The tech sheet should be in the control panel and should be put back when finished so if needed in the future, it can be located.
