The Lid Lock Service Kit is an OEM part for GE washing machines. This kit includes the components necessary to ensure that the washer lid remains securely locked during operation, preventing the lid from being opened when the washer is in use. This safety feature is crucial for top-load washers, ensuring safe and efficient operation by preventing access to the washer drum during cycles.

The kit includes:

  • Lid Lock & Harness Assembly
  • White Bezel
  • Gray Bezel
  • White Strike
  • Gray Strike

Common causes of a malfunctioning lid lock include wear over time, damage to the lock mechanism, or electrical issues that prevent the lock from engaging or disengaging properly. Exposure to moisture and constant use can also affect the performance of the lid lock system.

Symptoms of a bad lid lock include:

  • The washer not starting or advancing in the cycle
  • Error codes related to the lid lock
  • The lid not locking or unlocking as expected
  • The washer stopping mid-cycle

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Charlie for Model Number GTW680BSJ1WS

My washer does not spin in normal operation but does spin when tested in service mode. I read a GE Service Bulletin HL04-18 that said that a software update is needed to correct a washer that has stopped agitating and spinning. The service bulletin lists a Software Update Module (SUM) WH98R23015001 that can be purchased, but the bulletin says it applies to serial numbers HF- GL (May 2015 - April 2018). My machine is SN DG119773G. Will this SUM work for my machine or is there a different one that I need?

1 Answer

Charlie, the model and serial number provided would indicate that this unit was manufactured in February of 2004 or 2016. The module updater WH98R23015001 would work as long as this machine is no older than 2016.

Orval, if the lid is not locking, it would need to be tested for voltage at the main control. Using connection J513, the lid lock would be tested for 120VAC from pin 1 to pin 3. If there is 120VAC, the lid lock WH08X37938 has failed and would need to be replaced. This can cause the lid to be able to vibrate out of position if it is not securely locked.

Diane for Model Number GTW330ASKWW

This is Diane again. I found the technical service guide for my GE GTW330ASKWW washer and took the washer apart to test the Lid Lock Switches (the failing original and two that I just purchased). The spec sheet says for 'Lid Lock Assembly Diagnosis' The Lid Switch requires 120 VAC to activate the locking mechanism (verified at the Red Line pin #1 on all three switches). The approximate resistance of the lock coil is 70 ohms from Red to Violet (Lock Input pin #2) at the J513 board connector (all three measure in the Meg ohms in both directions - basically open!). Check the lid switch continuity of the lid switch between Red and Yellow (Switch Input #3) at the same connector (the new ones measure 34 ohms in one direction, 112 ohms in the other, the original one is open). I measured 120VAC at the Red and Yellow pins on the new switches, but the original was only 120VAC at the Red pin, not at the Yellow pin. I get the same measurements with the lid open and closed. So none of these switches are measuring good. The replacement switches are P/N WH01X27954 / WH01X26114 on the bag, 290D1580P004 on the part, which are supposed to be replacement P/Ns for the original 290D1580P001. So now do I try ordering another of the same P/N??? They are both in sealed GE bags saying they are factory tested and new, built in Feb. 2020. If I purchase one from Appliance Parts Pros, and it also is defective, do I then have to pay for shipping both ways to get a replacement (which is what I paid for the part)?

Diane for Model Number GTW330ASKWW

Where is the control panel on this GE Washer (where you said the tech sheet is)? If it is in the back, then I have no way to get to it, as the machine is against the wall and FULL of nasty water, since it won't spin or drain. I need to know how to test this Lid Lock Quick Release. Someone said to ohm it out with a multi-meter, and when the switch is closed, at least 2 of the 3 pins should be shorting out. I got two of these replacement Lid Lock Quick Releases, and neither of them are shorting when I close the switch. I am an electrical engineer, but I have no idea what these parts are supposed to do. Either they are both defective, or there is some other way they work besides shorting any of the 3 pins when the switch is closed??? Please reply with the tech sheet and/or instructions on determining what is causing the failure, and how to enter the diagnostics mode to get the error code ASAP.

1 Answer

Diane, The control panel is the panel that you set the cycles for. You would need to get in there to get to the tech sheet and would need to remove the main top as well. The tech sheet will be located at the front of the cabinet. You could try to use a shop vac to get the water out of the unit.

Hello Diane, The tech sheet is usually inside the control panel on this design machine. If yours is missing you can post a new question including a valid email address and we will be happy to send you a copy of the tech sheet. You will need to enter the diagnostics mode tp pull the error codes as explained by the tech sheet.

Ari Post for Model Number GEW9200LW0

I order the the lid lock quick release part. It came/put in/all ok EXCEPT the part did not come with the 2 screw to hold in in place. I have it 'clicked in place as designed. But, I need the screws so this new part does not break off at the tabs that 'click' in when the lid goes down and the lid latch part goes in to it. Sorry, I just want to get the proper screw as the original did break off for this reason. It might seem silly, but, honestly this part has fragile flanges on it to click in place, hence, want to get the correct screws to secure it properly. Thanks for any help...I will pay for the correct screw to be sent to me.

1 Answer

Ari, It appears that this lid lock does not need to have screws and is held in by the bezel. If there were screws the manufacturer does not list them as a separate part.
