This is a magnetron that is used on microwave ovens. The purpose of the magnetron is to provide the microwaves that actually cook the foot inside of the microwave oven. Use caution when replacing this part. High-voltage capacitors in microwaves can retain a deadly amount of electrical charge, even when they are unplugged. If the microwave begins making a buzzing noise and doesn't heat food properly, this part will need to be replaced. Use extreme caution when working with this appliance. Unplug the unit first. This particular magnetron is compatible with microwave ovens that are manufactured by the General Electric, Hotpoint, and Maytag brands. This part is sold individually and is sourced directly from the manufacturer as a genuine OEM part.

For Ge Magnetron (Part Number: OEM9574617)

Dan for Model Number JVM1090BW 001 GE Profile Conv/Micro

Hello. Our GE Profile convection turns on/off, lights up and makes noise as if it is cooking, but it does not heat the food. This happened after several instances of blowing or turning off the switch/breaker in the panel that feeds that area in the kitchen. It is in perfect condition otherwise, and I hate to trash it now that I see the prices on the new convection/microwaves. What is the problem and is it worth repairing? Thank you.

Hello Dan. You most likely have a "high voltage" side malfunction. Transformer, diode, magnetron, Capacitor. You will need to be extremely careful if you decide to test the components with a multi meter, Very high residual voltage is present, so make sure you remove power to the microwave and short across the terminals on the capacitor. The magnetron should have a reading of less than 1 ohm resistance across the two terminals, and an "open" circuit between each terminal and chassis ground. The diode/rectifier should have a resistance reading in one direction only, no resistance, or resistance in both directions indicate a faulty diode. The primary winding on the transformer should read approximately 450 Ohms resistance, the secondary winding should read 80 ohms resistance, and the filament transformer should read 100 ohms resistance. All of these are +- 10%. If all the readings are proper and in range, replace the magnetron.

Hello Terry, If the issue is in the low voltage side it can be a door switch or the control board. If the issue is in the high voltage side it can be the high voltage transformer, the high voltage diode, The high voltage capacitor, or the magnetron.

Hello Helen, This sounds like the magnetron WB27X10585 or the high voltage transformer WB27X1041 is going into trouble. If either of these are replaced it is a good idea to replace the high voltage diode WB27X10597 and the high voltage capacitor WB27X10240 at the same time since they will be excessively stressed electrically from the current flow produced by the failing component.

Amy, To replace the magnetron, you will disconnect the power and take unit from installation. Once out of installation you will remove the outer casing of unit. With outer casing off you will be able to replace the magnetron.

Hello Candy. If the magnetron WB27X10585 is bad, the unit will not heat. You will also want to test the diode WB27X1160 and make sure it is good. It should only read in one direction when testing. You will need to remove the microwave from the wall mount to access and replace the magnetron and diode. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps.http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
